By many regarded as the best Ring on DVD, this Bayreuth production on CD is also among the possible first choices for any Wagner lover. Daniel Barenboim's conducting captures the drama in a wonderfully detail rich reading, and the singers are all taken from the top shelf: John Tomlinson's Wotan can't be praised enough (in the Festival House and on DVD he is even more impressive), and with him the great team consists of outstanding singers like Siegfried Jerusalem, Anne Evans (your first choice if you like a wobble free Brünnhilde), Poul Elming, Nadine Secunde, Graham Clark and possibly the best Alberich in the 80's and 90's: Günter von Kannen. If that is not enough, you even get Waltraud Meier as Waltraute in Götterdämmerung.
